Military History


Bath County has a long, rich military history. Although formed soon after the close of the American Revolution, a number of men from Bath County served in that war. Likewise, a number of residents served in the French and Indian War.

French and Indian War

Revolutionary War

Twenty-one years after the formation of Bath County, the War of 1812 took place. Following that, came the Mexican War in 1846.

Mexican War

Seventy years after the formation of Bath County, her citizens found themselves engaged in a second war for indepencence - The War Between The States, or more commonly - The Civil War. Bath County provided a number of soldiers to the war, mostly Confederate.

War Between The States

Following the War Between the States, the next military conflict in which Bath County soldiers took part was the Spanish American War.

Spanish American War

In the ealry 1900's, the war to end all wars - World War I - brought a new type of warfare to the world. Bath County sent a number of men into this war.

World War I - The Great War

A generation later, Bath County and the United States found themselves involved in a new, more terrible war - World War II.

World War II

A few years after the close of World War II, the United States found itself involved in yet another war - The Korean Conflict. Following that, came the Vietnam Conflict, Desert Storm, Afghanistan and Iraq. Bath County sent her young men to these far flung fields of conflict.
