A Message From Our President...

Dear Patrons, Members and Friends, This winter certainly made history in Bath Country! While the snow was falling the Board of Directors of the Bath County Historical Society rolled up their sleeves and targeted key projects. Each director has joined more than one committee to facilitate the reorganization and reopening of the museum. What a dedicated and talented team! A professional librarian has helped to sort the contents of the research library and cataloging has begun. Due to the generous donation of one patron and the generous gift of professional time and expertise of another, we have a new computer up and running! Renewed filing systems, collection preservation and identification are in the works and will continue throughout 2010. Sadly, we have lost one of our founders and historians, Hugh Gwin. His wife, Evelyn, has donated Hugh’s research files to our archives. We are indeed honored to hold Hugh’s collection and grateful to have received donations in his memory. Our Museum will reopen on June 4th for two days a week, Friday and Saturday from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. To kick start our goal of a renewed Docent Program, the Board Members will tend the museum each of these days to welcome visitors, continue the renewal process, and assist in research. Please let us know if you would like to participate in the Docent Program! . Mark your calendars for Sunday afternoon June 27th for a very special celebration! Our Past President, Rick Armstrong has published a new book detailing the Terrill brothers Civil War saga. It has received rave reviews by historians of note. We will send you details as to purchase price, time and place for the book signing. Thank you for your support in our mission of preserving the history of this remarkable county. We look forward to seeing you on the June 27th and on any Friday or Saturday this summer. With gratitude, Nell Carpenter, President
